Notice when a video needs your eyes
Which YouTube videos work well as background listening?
Compare six channels through stories, discussions, charts and city footage. Pick a format you can follow, and return to the screen when the explanation needs it.

Choose by how long your task lasts and how often you can look at the screen. For roughly half an hour, try Syuka World or Tamgu. For a longer stretch, try Chimchakman’s Three Kingdoms stories or Lee Jong-beom’s Storycamp. Minumsa TV offers mostly seated book conversations; Sherlock Hyunjun is better when you can occasionally look at the city images.
This guide is for listeners comfortable with Korean. English article text does not make the original audio English. If you want to turn your phone screen off, check the app’s background-play requirements: YouTube’s help page describes background play as a Premium benefit, subject to its service conditions.

Counts cover the Videos tabs from September 27 through October 26, 2026 KST, excluding Shorts. The channels were checked October 27, with durations and publication dates inspected individually. Subscriber counts came from that morning’s headers and do not measure listening quality. Visual inspection used YouTube preview frames at ten-second intervals, not continuous observation of every frame.
Paid-promotion labels appeared on three Storycamp videos, two each from Syuka and Tamgu, and one each from Chimchakman and Minumsa within the window; none was observed for Sherlock Hyunjun. The label can appear only briefly at the opening, so a listener may miss it. Check the description and opening if disclosures matter to you.
Storycamp — hear one story unfold at length
Lee Jong-beom’s Storycamp discusses novels, games, films and mythology. Begin with the 80-minute August 4 account from the Trojan War to the Odyssey. The two preview ranges inspected mostly showed Lee talking on a sofa, with occasional mythological illustrations.
The description includes chapters such as the Trojan War at 17:21 and Odysseus’s journey home at 53:07. It identifies a NordVPN advertisement beginning at 00:55.
For a quieter format, the July 9 illustrated-demonology reading lasts 107 minutes. The inspected section stayed largely on one person reading in a dim study. At the research date, the podcast tab grouped 43 “masterpiece explanation” episodes and two “Bedtime Story” episodes. Only automatic captions were available. These are viewing-format suggestions, not evidence of a sleep benefit.
Syuka World — hear the conclusion, return for the figures
Syuka’s October videos frequently placed charts, tables or article captures above the presenter and chat. The main conclusion was often spoken, but numerical detail could remain on screen.
In the October 19 video, at 15:59, he gives a positive overall assessment of TSMC’s quarter while directing viewers to the table for details. You can hear that assessment without seeing the revenue or EPS values. This article examines the presentation, not the accuracy of an investment recommendation.
A 2023 GQ Korea recommendation described detailed verbal explanation of graphs. The October examples add a qualification: some specifics still require looking. All 25 videos in this window had chapters, making it easier to return to a table afterward.
For a longer session, the holiday-special playlist contained thirteen compilations. The 98-minute October 10 conversation mostly showed two people without presentation slides. Its opening introduced former Bank of Korea governor Rhee Chang-yong as the first guest of a new podcast, according to the English captions checked; Korean captions were not available in that example.
Chimchakman — choose the format within the channel
The 65-minute October 19 Zhang Liao story mostly showed Chimchakman speaking to camera, with small character cards. At 1:02:06, he connects the famous Hefei charge with his interpretation of Zhang Liao’s habit of reading an opponent. Treat this as the presenter’s storytelling, not a historical verification by this article.
The October 13 guest episode also lasted about 65 minutes and mainly showed four people around a table. Those are the examples found easier to follow by ear. GQ’s 2023 account likewise appreciated his dialogue-driven retelling.
Other formats rely heavily on visuals. The 106-minute October 18 bracket-ranking video alternated conversation with large candidate pictures, sometimes choosing by screen position. The October 25 lecture at 33:35 used a board and visually referenced marks. An October 8 Nuri launch lecture moved from images to launch footage around 29 minutes, with the launch around 33 minutes. A podcast label alone does not make a video audio-independent.
At the research date, the podcast tab grouped four Three Kingdoms character episodes and 147 guest episodes. Seven of the 23 recent videos exceeded an hour, but this guide’s audio-friendly assessment is bounded to the examined stories and conversations.
Tamgu — prefer conversations such as MMM
In the October 3 MMM discussion with MickeyPedia, two people facing each other and edited captions made up most of the picture, with occasional inserted images. They discussed why technological development can make products feel less convenient. The October 24 Yeon Sang-ho conversation also centered on two people, but used more film excerpts.
The October 7 Tripp Trapp and October 14 Ralph Lauren solo explanations used more visual material; both carried paid-promotion labels as brand collaborations. Choose by format rather than assuming every Tamgu video works equally well without the screen.
For a longer queue, the podcast tab then held 84 MMM episodes and 24 conversations in another discussion collection. GQ’s 2023 recommendation emphasized the channel’s film and book context; the current article’s narrower contribution is the distinction between conversation and image-led formats.
Sherlock Hyunjun — leave room to look at the city
Architect Yoo Hyun-jun alternates desk-based explanation with city photographs and video. The 23-minute October 12 discussion of Seoul’s electronic billboards can be followed verbally, but the compared streets are easier to understand visually.
Chapters include “K-Times Square versus light pollution” at 00:30 and a question about window film on medical clinics at 18:06. It suits a task that lets you glance at the screen more than one that makes watching impossible.
Minumsa TV — stay with a seated book discussion
The publisher uploaded four videos, one each Friday, in the observed window. For a very long queue, the July 24 reading-club compilation lasts 15 hours 14 minutes and lists starting times for fifteen episodes, from Pride and Prejudice to The Catcher in the Rye.
The inspected sections stayed largely on participants around a table in front of bookshelves. The podcast tab then contained twenty individual reading-club episodes and thirteen quieter book introductions labelled ASMR. Book discussions can reveal plot details; choose an episode accordingly.
Pick one format for the task you are actually doing. If the task is organizing a kitchen, begin with three kitchen-storage examples before choosing something to listen to alongside it.
