Observe distance and response before contact
Before approaching a dog or cat, watch these three videos
Compare Bodeum TV, Cat Doctor and Yoonsem on approaching animals. The selected scenes explain observation; they do not establish what is safe for every animal.

For a young puppy, begin with Bodeum TV at 01:23–02:10. If you hope your cat will sit on your lap, watch Cat Doctor at 06:24–08:17. For observing an unfamiliar cat, try Yoonsem at 04:16–05:35—but first hear the explanation of stepping back at 03:22.

Bodeum TV — observe a person approaching a puppy
From 01:23, Kang Hyung-wook describes remaining still, offering a little of something the puppy likes, waiting and starting again. He explains that an energetic approach does not suit every dog. The sequence includes offering a treat with one hand and touching the puppy with the other.
The video begins with a three-month-old Maltipoo. It is useful for watching how the person spends time with the puppy in front of him, rather than for learning a long list of commands.

Distinguish the moments when the person stops moving from those when the puppy approaches again. Do not simply memorize the hand movement. The 2022 video later discusses sounds, objects and a kennel; this recommendation covers the contact segment. The description links to Bodeum training and its shop.

Cat Doctor emphasizes not immediately petting a cat that climbs up, and not restraining it when it wants to leave. The earlier part explains why cats may sit on laps; from 06:24, the focus shifts to letting them leave. That makes this segment useful for observing a person’s actions without having to guess the cat’s motives.
From 06:49, he describes putting a blanket beside you before placing it on your lap. Notice the distinction between “came close” and “asked to be touched.”

Describe one movement you actually saw: “sat nearby briefly, then moved away,” rather than “doesn’t like me.” The September 2026 video also says it is fine if the cat never becomes a lap cat. The description links to channel membership and the Doctor Felis store.

From 03:22, Yoonsem discusses stepping back when a cat does not respond or keeps staring. The object-and-hand examples at 04:16–05:35 follow the presenter’s explanation of an initial eye greeting. He distinguishes moving away from sniffing or rubbing, then shows a brief contact scene.

Describe where the hand touches and which way the head faces separately. Closed eyes or a lack of retreat alone cannot establish that a cat wants contact. Do not turn this clip into a universal sequence for approaching cats. Focus on distinguishing visible posture from the interpretation, rather than approaching an animal to test its reaction.
